How to Make A Difference - Really
Colorado State Senator Ted Harvey (Rep, Highlands Ranch) wrapped up this year's legislative session by saying, "The successes we have seen this legislative session were only because of the hard work of conservatives at the grassroots level. Thank you for your help: none of our victories this year would have been possible without your commitment." Senator Harvey went on to say, "Citizen activism on this level has never happened before, and it has transformed this legislative body. The people of Colorado are no longer content to allow their lives to be controlled by a handful of politicians in Denver."
Voting is not enough - it is only the beginning. You must be a part of the process by influencing your representatives, telling them how you want to be represented. This is true regardless of whether you voted for them or whether you are in the same party as your representatives or not. If they are your representatives, then they are accountable to you. You must also understand that they all keep a tally of every letter, email and phone call that they receive on every issue. It heavily influences how they legislate. Here's what you must do to be involved.
Got Your MAD2 Cards?
Contacting your representatives makes all the difference in the world. You are probably already doing it. The key is to get your friends to do it too. This is where you can multiply your impact by being prepared and making it easy for your friends to get in on the process.

Maintaining Accountability in Democracy
You can be prepared by always carrying a couple of MAD2 Cards with you. A MAD2 Card has the contact information for the White House, your two Senators and your Congressman. When someone shares your concern on an issue, simply hand them a MAD2 Card and tell them that the people on that card keep track of how many emails, letters and phone calls they get for every issue. Colorado State Senator Ted Harvey and others have confirmed that this really makes a difference.
You can also have a MAD2 Card for state level issues as well. That card contains the contact information for the Governor, your State Senator, and your State Representative.
